What are Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride is often found in most dental products and even public water sources. It is helpful in protecting the teeth from decay by strengthening them. Fluoride treatments can be done in our office as a way to add an extra layer of protection where you need it the most. These treatments are most often applied to pediatric teeth, but they’re helpful for adults as well.
Why are Fluoride Treatments needed?
We might suggest fluoride treatments if you aren’t using fluoride during your daily brushing and flossing routine. If you are prone to decay, have many fillings already or have issues with sensitivity, these treatments can be equally beneficial. We may recommend fluoride treatments, or you can request them at virtually any time. We can apply the fluoride to your teeth in conjunction with other treatments and procedures.
Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?
There is no age limit on the patient who can and should receive fluoride treatments. Most often, we will apply fluoride to children’s teeth to keep them strong and healthy. These treatments can be helpful for adults as well. Treatment can be done at each and every one of your upcoming checkup visits.
What happens during Fluoride Treatments?
The procedure begins by having liquid fluoride brushed onto the teeth. You will be instructed to avoid eating and drinking for about 30 minutes. This prevents the fluoride from being washed away so that it is able to do its job. The fluoride is meant to strengthen and protect your teeth fully. This can help to prevent tooth decay from forming, which could result in the need for fillings, root canals and extractions. The process to apply fluoride is incredibly easy and provides you with a stronger and more resilient smile that you will be proud to show off. As a parent, we will always ask if you’d like your child to receive fluoride treatments.
